Banify joins the Shopify Partner Directory as a verified developer

Verification means our apps are reviewed against Shopify’s current security and performance requirements.

Banify is now listed in the Shopify Partner Directory as a verified developer. It is a small badge and it is worth explaining what sits behind it, because "verified" is doing more work here than it might appear.

What verification actually checks

Shopify reviews a developer’s apps against its current requirements rather than the requirements that applied when each app was first published. That covers how an app authenticates, what permissions it requests, how it stores merchant and customer data, how it responds to mandatory privacy webhooks, and what it does to a storefront’s performance.

  • Scoped permissions — an app may only request what its features need
  • Data handling and deletion in line with Shopify’s requirements
  • Storefront performance within published thresholds
  • Documented support channels and response expectations

The part that mattered most to us is the third. Urgency widgets and popups have a reputation for slowing stores down, and a review that measures it is a useful discipline rather than an inconvenience.

Being reviewed against the current rules rather than the rules at launch is the whole value of it. Standards move; apps should have to keep up.

What it changes for merchants

Practically, not much day to day — and that is the point. Nothing about how the apps install or run has changed. What the listing gives you is a way to check our standing without taking our word for it, which is a reasonable thing to want from a company you are handing customer data to.

It also sets a floor. Verification is reviewed rather than granted permanently, so the requirements now apply to everything we ship next, not just to what existed when we applied.

A note on the size of the team

We are a small studio, and there was a version of this where we treated a directory listing as a marketing milestone. It is not one. It is a set of requirements we now have to meet continuously across four apps, which is the more useful thing to have.
