Banify: AI Visibility & LLMs.txt

Complete guide to installing and using Banify to make your Shopify store discoverable by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and every major AI model.

🧭 App Overview

Banify: AI Visibility & LLMs.txt generates and publishes a structured llms.txt file at your Shopify store's domain. This file tells AI models exactly what your store sells — products, collections, shipping policies, and more — so they can accurately recommend your store when shoppers ask AI assistants where to buy things.

Banify is completely free to install. No credit card required. Your LLMs.txt will be live at yourstore.com/llms.txt within minutes of installation.

What Banify does

  • Reads your Shopify store data — products, collections, pages, policies
  • Generates two files: llms.txt (summary) and llms-full.txt (complete index)
  • Publishes both files at your store's domain via Shopify App Proxy
  • Lets you control exactly which sections are included with 11 toggle switches
  • Provides an AI Generate button to write your store description automatically

What Banify does NOT do

  • Does not modify your theme or storefront design in any way
  • Does not collect or store customer personal data
  • Does not automatically submit your file to AI search engines
  • Does not guarantee specific AI search rankings

✅ Requirements

  • An active Shopify store (any plan — Basic, Shopify, Advanced, or Plus)
  • Admin access to install apps from the Shopify App Store
  • No theme changes or developer access required
ℹ️
Banify works with all Shopify plans including Basic. You do not need Shopify Plus or a custom domain — it works with .myshopify.com domains too.

📦 Installation

  1. Go to the Shopify App Store listing
  2. Click Install on the Banify: AI Visibility & LLMs.txt listing
  3. Review the permissions Banify requests and click Install app to confirm
  4. You will be redirected to the Banify onboarding wizard inside your Shopify admin
⚠️
During installation Shopify will show you a list of data permissions Banify needs. This is normal — Banify needs read access to your products, collections, and policies to generate the LLMs.txt file. See the Data Banify Accesses section for a full list.

👋 Step 1 – Welcome

1

Welcome Screen

The first screen confirms your store has been successfully connected. You will see your store name and a confirmation that Banify has read your basic store information.

  • No action required on this step
  • Click Next to continue to Step 2

🏪 Step 2 – Store Profile

2

Store Profile

This step collects two key pieces of information that Banify uses in your LLMs.txt file.

Store Description

Write a 2–4 sentence description of your store. This is what AI models will read first when encountering your LLMs.txt. A good description tells AI:

  • What you sell (product category)
  • Who you serve (target audience)
  • What makes your store unique
AI Generate Button: Click the ✦ Generate with AI button and Banify will automatically write a store description using your store name, products, and Shopify store data. You can edit the result or regenerate as many times as you like.

Store Category

Select the category that best describes your store from the dropdown. This helps AI models classify your store correctly when answering shopper queries. Examples: Food & Beverage, Fashion & Apparel, Electronics, Home & Garden, Health & Beauty.

ℹ️
The left side of this screen shows your store info pulled automatically from Shopify (store name, owner, email, country, currency, plan). These fields are read-only — edit them in your Shopify admin if needed.

📄 Step 3 – Configure LLMs.txt

3

Content Section Toggles

Choose which sections of your store to include in your LLMs.txt file. Toggle each section on or off using the switches. The live preview on the right updates instantly as you make changes.

Live Preview

The right panel shows a real-time preview of what your LLMs.txt will look like as you toggle sections. Below the preview you will see:

  • Est. Words — approximate word count of your file
  • Citation Score — a 0–100 score estimating how complete your AI visibility file is
  • Products — number of products that will be indexed

🎉 Step 4 – All Set

4

Onboarding Complete

Onboarding is complete. Click Go to Dashboard to finish setup. Banify will automatically begin generating your LLMs.txt file in the background — this usually takes 5–30 seconds depending on your store size.

After clicking Go to Dashboard, your LLMs.txt generation starts automatically. When it is ready, the Dashboard will show the status as Live with your file URLs.

📊 Dashboard

The Dashboard is your main overview screen. It shows:

  • LLMs.txt Status — Pending, Generating, Live, or Error
  • Products Indexed — how many of your products are in the file
  • Collections Indexed — number of collections included
  • Estimated Words — total word count of your LLMs.txt files
  • Your file URLs — clickable links to your live llms.txt and llms-full.txt
  • Content Sections — a summary of which toggles are on or off
  • Generation History — log of all previous generations

File Status

The status badge on your Dashboard shows the current state of your LLMs.txt file:

  • Pending — generation has not started yet
  • Generating — file is being built (usually takes under 30 seconds)
  • Live ✓ — your file is published and accessible
  • Error — something went wrong. See Troubleshooting

⚙️ LLMs.txt Generator Page

Navigate to LLMs.txt Generator in the left sidebar to access the full generator view. This page shows:

  • All 11 section toggle switches
  • A live file preview that updates as you toggle sections
  • File statistics (word count, citation score, product count)
  • A Regenerate button to rebuild your file with the latest data

Any changes you make to section toggles here are saved automatically when you click Regenerate.

🎛️ Content Sections

Each section toggle controls whether that type of content appears in your generated LLMs.txt files. All 8 Free sections are enabled by default when you first set up the app. You can turn any section off if you prefer AI models not to see that information.

ℹ️
The Store Overview section is always recommended — it's the first thing AI models read and provides essential context about what your store sells.

📁 Your LLMs.txt Files

Banify generates two files for maximum AI compatibility:

llms.txt — Summary File

A concise overview of your store. Approximately 300–600 words. This is the primary file that AI models check first.

URL: yourstore.com/llms.txt

Also accessible at: yourstore.com/a/llms/llms.txt

yourstore.com/llms.txt
# Your Store Name
> Store description from Step 2
> Store: yourstore.com
> Last-Updated: 2026-01-01

## Products
- [Product 1](/products/product-1)
- [Product 2](/products/product-2)
...and more

## Collections
- [Collection Name](/collections/name)

llms-full.txt — Complete Index

A comprehensive file with full product descriptions, all collections, and detailed store information. Approximately 1,000–5,000 words depending on store size.

URL: yourstore.com/llms-full.txt

Also accessible at: yourstore.com/a/llms/llms-full.txt

ℹ️
Both files are served directly at your store's domain. You do not need a custom domain — they work with .myshopify.com domains too. The short URL (/llms.txt) is a redirect Banify sets up automatically during installation.

🔄 Regenerating Your File

Your LLMs.txt does not auto-update when you add new products. You need to manually regenerate it. This gives you full control over what gets published.

When to regenerate

  • After adding new products or collections
  • After updating your shipping or return policies
  • After changing your store description or category
  • After toggling any content sections on or off
  • Seasonally (e.g., after a major product launch)

How to regenerate

  1. Go to your Banify Dashboard or the LLMs.txt Generator page
  2. Adjust any section toggles if needed
  3. Click the ↻ Regenerate button
  4. Wait 5–30 seconds while the file is rebuilt
  5. Your new file is live immediately at your domain URL
Regeneration uses your per-store limits stored in the database (default: 500 products, 30 collections). If you need higher limits, contact Banify support.

❓ What is LLMs.txt?

LLMs.txt is an emerging web standard proposed by fast.ai researcher Jeremy Howard in September 2024. It is a plain text Markdown file placed at the root of a website (yoursite.com/llms.txt) that provides AI language models with a structured, concise overview of the website's content.

Think of it like robots.txt (which tells search engine bots what to crawl) — but specifically designed for AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity.

Why does it matter for Shopify stores?

Shoppers increasingly ask AI assistants "Where can I buy X?" or "Recommend me a good Y store." AI models answer these questions based on what they know about the web. A well-structured LLMs.txt file gives AI models the information they need to confidently recommend your store — your products, collections, policies, and brand story — in a format they can easily parse.

🔐 Data Banify Accesses

During installation, Shopify asks you to approve the following permissions. Here is what each one is used for:

PermissionWhy Banify needs it
read_productsTo read your product titles, descriptions, handles, prices, and tags for the Products section
read_collectionsTo list your custom and smart collections in the Collections section
read_contentTo read your store pages (About, Contact, FAQ) for the relevant sections
read_themesRequired by Shopify App Proxy to serve your LLMs.txt at your domain
read_shippingTo include your shipping and return policy URLs in the Shipping section
read_blogsTo list blog posts in the Blog & Guides section (Pro plan)
read_script_tags / write_script_tagsTo register the URL redirect from /llms.txt to the app proxy path
read_metafields / write_metafieldsTo store generation metadata on the store object
🔒
Banify only uses read access for your store data. We never write to, modify, or delete your products, collections, orders, or customer data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

🔧 Troubleshooting

My LLMs.txt status shows "Error"

This usually means Banify couldn't connect to your store data. Try clicking Regenerate again. If the error persists, uninstall and reinstall the app, or contact support at [email protected].

The file at yourstore.com/llms.txt shows a 404

The URL redirect from /llms.txt to the app proxy is set up during installation. If it's missing, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. The redirect is created automatically on first install. It may take up to 10 minutes to propagate.

My new products aren't showing in the file

Banify does not auto-update. Click Regenerate on the Dashboard or Generator page to rebuild the file with your latest products.

The AI Generate button isn't working

The AI Generate button calls our API to write your store description. If it fails, check your internet connection and try again. If the issue continues, you can write the description manually — it just needs to be 2–4 sentences describing what your store sells.

Pro section toggles are greyed out

Review Summary, Blog & Guides, and Press & Awards sections are available on the Pro plan (coming soon). They show as disabled on the Free plan. All 8 other sections are fully available for free.

The status is stuck on "Generating"

Generation typically takes 5–30 seconds. If the status is stuck for more than 2 minutes, refresh the page. If it remains stuck, try regenerating again from the Dashboard. Large stores (500+ products) may take slightly longer.
